Population Health

Grand Pacific Health Centre – Nowra uses a population health approach to identify local health needs and inform the development of focused and responsive primary care services. 

The Nowra-Bomaderry region has:

demographic and socio-economic needs
  • High proportion of 0-4 aged children.
  • High proportion of persons identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • High proportion of single parent families supporting children under 15 years of age.
  • High unemployment rate.
Health Status, Epidemiological and Health Service needs
  • High avoidable mortality ratios for deaths due to cerebrovascular diseases, lung cancer, road traffic accidents and suicide/self-inflicted injuries within the catchment and higher than NSW state and national average figures.
  • High disease prevalence rates of circulatory system diseases:
      • musculoskeletal system diseases
      • type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol
      • COPD and asthma
      • arthritis
      • mental and behavioural problems amongst females.
  • High current residential aged care service provision in terms of aged-care facility places and community care places per 1000 persons aged 70 years and over.
